Violet Rye Sour

The Violet Rye Sour is sharper and more botanical than the bourbon version. Rye spice gives structure while butterfly pea flower and lemon create a vivid violet finish.

  4. Garnish with a lemon twist.

Bar Tools

  • Strainer

Whiskey Scene Notes

Keep lavender restrained. It should lift the aroma, not perfume the drink.

Choosing the Whiskey

Choose rye with baking spice and citrus rather than heavy dill or aggressive grassiness.

Technique Notes

Foam softens the rye and gives the color a polished finish. Aquafaba works well if egg white is not desired.

Pairing Suggestions

Pair with herbed goat cheese, smoked salmon, lemon tart, or lightly spiced nuts.

Variations

  • Use plain butterfly pea syrup.
  • Add honey for softness.
  • Serve without foam over one large cube.

Hosting and Service

Serve up in a chilled coupe. This drink belongs in a spring or summer cocktail feature, especially with cigar or patio pairings nearby.
