Maker’s Mark State Series Brings a Texas Collaboration to the Bottle

Maker’s Mark is putting a Texas collaboration on shelves with State Series – Texas, a limited-release, wood-finished bourbon developed with three people working across the state’s art, retail and food scenes. The producer lists participating Texas retailers and identifies Joppy Momma’s Farm in Dallas as a community organization the release supports.

The collaborators are artist Mariell Guzman, Manready Mercantile founder Travis Weaver and CNTRD Juice cofounder Veronica Ume-Ezeoke. Working with the Maker’s Mark distillery team, they helped shape the release’s flavor direction. The project connects a Kentucky bourbon producer with Texas creative voices and a specific Texas community initiative.

Three perspectives behind the Texas release

Guzman brings a visual artist’s perspective; Weaver comes from product design and retail; Ume-Ezeoke brings a culinary background. Their involvement gives the release a story beyond its geographic name: three different kinds of creative work contributing to a shared bourbon selection.

Maker’s Mark describes citrus, tobacco and pecan notes in its official Texas release page.

The company places Texas within its limited-release bourbon range, where it also lists a Pennsylvania State Series expression. That positioning is useful for identifying the bottle: shoppers looking for this collaboration should ask specifically for State Series – Texas.

A connection to Joppy Momma’s Farm

The community connection runs through Joppy Momma’s Farm, which serves the historic Joppa neighborhood in Dallas. The Texas State Series supports the farm.

On its own website, the nonprofit describes a mission centered on affordable, healthy food and opportunities for health, education and self-sufficiency. Its work uses sustainable and regenerative agriculture to address local needs, with fresh produce, herbs and honey among its offerings.

The website also describes educational programs, volunteer days and family events as part of its community work. These activities support the connection to the land. If you are interested in that work you can visit the farm’s site directly to learn about volunteering, its programs and ways to contribute. Those routes provide a way to engage with the organization independently of finding or purchasing a bottle.

Where to look in Texas

Maker’s Mark names participating locations of Spec’s, Total Wine, Twin Liquors, WB Liquors and Goody Goody Liquor, alongside independent retailers. Availability varies by store and location, and the release is offered while supplies last. A listing of a retail chain does not confirm stock at every branch.

Before making a trip, ask the individual store for the exact expression and its current price and availability. If comparing listings, match the State Series – Texas name and check the bottle’s stated strength. Details from another Maker’s Mark limited release should not be carried over to this one.

Reporting note: Based on Maker’s Mark’s published release information and Joppy Momma’s Farm’s public account of its work. No independent tasting or interview was conducted for this article.
